Abomination – A to Z Blogging Challenge

Midnight shone heavily downward, deep and eternal, the moon a lantern in the jet-black sky. Stars violated the night like muted pinpricks in the cloak of darkness – she shuddered and turned from the skies, prostrating herself beneath that abomination.

She could feel the pull of it through her flesh, could feel her blood churning, stretching upward toward that weight in the firmament.

Soon she would be rid of it.
An abomination, it was.
Losna. Phoebe. Luna.
Disgusting – all those filthy pagan associations.

Shuffling beneath the torchlight she turned toward her home, where she could draw the curtains and bask in the darkness.

Soon she would be rid of it.
Or so the Reverend said.

Soon she could be happy.

Resisting the urge to howl she climbed through the doorway, careful not to wake her husband.

He didn’t like seeing her eat.

So I’m doing the A to Z Blogging Challenge this year, where you post every day in April (except Sundays) which will give you a blog post for each letter of the alphabet. And remember, in Australia we call it “Zed” not “Zee.” As do the guys in Pulp Fiction (“Zed’s dead, baby.”) I’ve decided to just pop open my copy of Roget’s Thesaurus to choose my prompt word for each day. Today’s word was Abomination.

Anyway, 25 posts in thirty days? BRING IT ON! Let me know what you think guys/dolls!

Excited to see some flash fiction in A to Z! I’ve gotten into some flash fiction contests across the web thanks to Twitter and blogging. Always a surprise to see what comes out.

Glad you signed up – will be cheering you on throughout the month. 🙂

  2. Thanks! I’ve decided on a theme – Under-represented Monsters. This one was a werewolf, the next one is Bigfoot – but I promise there are weirder things lurking beneath these waters. Also, as an aside, isn’t it awesome how the word “weird” is spelt weirdly? Yes. It is…

I look forward to reading more of these.
