Cerulean

I saw a butterfly, broken, brilliant blue.

Fluttering cerulean against an unending desert, cracked greying asphalt, baking in the sun.

A crowded, burning surrender.

I stopped, staring downward as shined leather smeared downward.

I saw a butterfly, broken, brilliant blue.
